All 5th and 6th grade students will participate in the beginning band program. The school has some instruments that students can use or students are more than welcome to furnish their own instruments. Students playing woodwind instruments are responsible for furnishing their own reeds and cork grease, while students playing brass instruments will need to furnish valve oil, slide oil or cream, and oil for their tuning slides. Monitoring the care of all instruments will be a priority in the curriculum. Any students doing intentional damage to a school owned instrument will be responsible for the cost of its repairs. A minimum of 15 minutes per day, or 120 minutes per week, of practice is strongly encouraged for the benefit of the student.
